Study of the influence of N-alkylation of 2-benzylthiopyrimidines on the growth of two bacteria of medical interest

The present work highlights the synthesis and effect of introducing substituents on nitrogen at position -1 five 2-benzylthiopyrimidine derivatives (6a-e). compounds (6a-e) were obtained by condensation 2-thiopyrimidines (4) with benzyl halides in presence a base. As for N-alkylated/arylated-2thiobenzylpyrimidines (8a-k), they nucleophilic substitution reaction basic medium. All synthesized characterized 1H proton, 13C carbon NMR spectroscopic analyses high resolution mass spectrometry. subjected to antibacterial testing two multidrug resistant strains Escherichia coli Staphylococcus aureus. results revealed that 6a, 6b, 6c, 6d 6e showed no minimum inhibitory concentration either E. or S. However, 8b, 8c, 8d 8f MIC aureus1174. bacterial strain 1178, only compound 8h concentration. N-alkylation/arylation enhanced some derivatives.
